In 1808 a mysterious sea creature was washed up on a beach in Orkney. The monster carcass, which many say resembled a Nessie type creature, has been partly preserved and now bone fragments are going to be tested to establish exactly what the legendary beast really is.

Stronsay Beast

Some marine experts have speculated that the beast may have been a Basking Shark, but with a carcass measuring 55ft it would have to be an exceptionally large Basking Shark. Looking at drawings made of the beast, it was said to have a long neck like many other sea monsters around the world and there have been obvious comparisons with that other Scottish cryptid the Loch Ness Monster.

Yvonne SimpsonNow geneticist Yvonne Simpson, who has been studying the creature for seven years, believes she can extract DNA from recently found bone fragments given to her by a private collector. She will be sending the samples, if successful, to a Florida based laboratory that holds a shark DNA database.

“At 55ft long this would be an unusually big basking shark, and it’s far more likely to belong to another member of the shark family.” She told reporters.

Parts of the Stronsay Beast are still kept on display at Royal Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.

Beast of Cannock Chase?Several witnesses have this week reported sightings of a mysterious beast on Cannock Chase that appeared to be a large black cat.

Trainee teacher Matthew Horeton described how the beast ran out in front of his car as he drove past the German War Cemetery.

“I saw something large and black dart out in front of my car about 50 metres in the distance,” Matthew said.

“At first I thought it was a deer, but as I got closer to the place it had disappeared. I saw something moving in the undergrowth.

“It was smaller than a deer, but it had a large black tail and was sort of slinking through the bracken.

“There was no way it was an average cat - it was much too large.”

Another witness, wishing to remain anonymous, gave this account.

“As I was driving back to the town from Rugeley I definitely saw something moving from the fields into the woods,” the person said.

“I was a fair distance away as I came over the brow of the hill, but this thing was not a deer. It moved in a slow and unhurried way. It was very low to the ground.

“I drive through the Chase regularly and I have never, ever seen anything like that.”

The Chase has a long history of beast sightings, among other strange occurrences. Earlier this month The Morningstarr* reported on the strange disappearances of family pets on the Chase, and the theory of subterranean stone age men prowling the area. The latest reports seem much more likely than cavemen, wildlife experts now agree that wild big cats are simply a part of the UK countryside. Big cats have been released or escaped into the wild over a number of years, Neil Arnold from Kent Big Cat Research had this to say on the subject.

“It’s time the public, especially sceptics, realised that large exotic cats are nothing unusual in the UK countryside any more - and that the only mystery is that they’ve become a mystery,” he said.

“These animals haven’t recently been released, but a steady influx of animals from private collections and travelling menageries over time has resulted in today’s populations.”

Stig of the DumpCannock Chase in Stafford has long been a hotbed for prolific sightings of unusual beasts and apparitions. For years witnesses have reported seeing alleged werewolves or ape-men at the local beauty spot, and the mysterious creatures are being blamed for missing pets and discovered animal carcasses.

In the past claims have been made that the area is being stalked by anything ranging from a British Bigfoot, escaped big cats, ghosts, aliens or even werewolves. But this week a supposed “expert” in the Cannock Chase phenomena has suggested that the mysterious pet disappearances and the sighting of large hairy beasts isn’t a Yeti or a lycanthrope but is in fact a subterranean stone age man.

The unnamed expert, who wishes to remain anonymous, backs up his claim by citing the vast underground tunnels below Cannock Chase which are remnants of centuries of mining in the area.

What he doesn’t explain is how the “cavemen” got to be in these tunnels. Were they always there living underground and the mining disturbed them? Or have they traveled in time like the fictional modern day caveman Stig of the Dump?

Nicholas Duffy, spokesman for the West Midlands Ghost Club a group of paranormal investigators based in the West Midlands with a substantial history in paranormal investigations, has plenty of experience of visiting the Cannock Chase area and has had lots of correspondence with witnesses of unusual happenings on the Chase. He told The Morningstarr* that the latest theory is laughable drivel and simply “the inane mutterings of a particularly silly bloke”.

Duffy’s expert opinion is that the events on Cannock Chase don’t warrant any serious investigation and the stories are being sensationalised by local press. Perhaps it will take the alleged corpse of a subterranean dog thief being photographed in a hunter’s freezer before the world really takes any notice of our anonymous “expert’s” theory.

Following Wednesday’s news story that two hunter’s in America were planing a press conference to announce the discovery of a Bigfoot in Georgia, The Morningstarr* is disappointed to report that the conference was far from enlightening.

The two men making the outrageous claim that they had the body of a Bigfoot in their freezer were Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer. At the press conference they failed to deliver any compelling proof, despite claiming to possess a corpse of one of the legendary cryptids the two men didn’t produce a scrap of physical evidence to prove it’s existence. Not even the DNA sample they seemed so proud of.

All the men did show the room full of press reporters and photographers were an old video of an alleged Bigfoot sighting, and alleged DNA results taken from the mysterious hairy corpse. Even these DNA reports were vague and useless, there is no DNA data bank to compare the samples to all they can tell us it what the creature isn’t. If it even does actually exist.

Hot on the heels of the police allegedly filming a real life chupacabra, two hunters in Northern Georgia, US, have announced that they’ve got a Bigfoot in their freezer.

A press conference has been announced at Cabana Hotel-Palo Alto, California, for Friday 15th August, where Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer claim to have photographic and DNA proof that the thing in their freezer is in fact a legendary cryptid, The Bigfoot.

The body of the creature, also known as a sasquatch, is reported to be 7′ 7″ tall, weighs over 500 pounds, is male with reddish-brown fur or hair and walks upright like a human. The hunters claim to have seen a group of these creatures, all walking around upright. I think it’s safe to say if the body in the freezer does turn out to be a sasquatch, the reason it’s not walking upright anymore is because it’s been killed by the hunters. Surely a creature this rare should be on a protected species list?

The only available photograph at present is this one which Searching For Bigfoot are saying is genuine. The truth will out on Friday, watch this space.

…on video.

Police in Texas have released video which some claim shows the legendary “chupacabra” or “goat sucker”. The chupacabra is a cryptid creature with it’s origins in Mexican folklore. The name is derived from the Spanish words for “suck” and “goat” as it’s believed by some to attack livestock and drink their blood.

Last year a woman in South Texas captured a creature she said was responsible for killing and drinking the blood of some of her livestock. The creature was a strange dog-like animal, with an elongated snout.

Today a video has emerged which was shot by a Texas Police patrolman’s dashboard camera, it clearly shows a strange dog-like creature with an elongated snout and a peculiar walk. It has been suggested that the mystery of the chupacabra is finally over and the goat sucker’s true identity has been revealed.

A tourist to Lake Tahoe in the US has revealed this startling picture which he claims shows a “leprechaun-alien”.

Leprechaun

Lloyd Deneau, 41 from Florida, says he was just taking a picture of the forest scenery and didn’t realise he had caught the mystery midget creature until later.

“When I took the picture I’m sure there was no one there,” he said.

“It was only when I downloaded it on my camera that I saw it.

“I showed it to my friends and family but no one can explain it.

“My kids coined it the leprechaun-alien.”

He added: “I have a military background and don’t really believe in aliens, but I can’t explain this.”

BigfootprintBigfoot has been spotted again, and a huge footprint showing the creature has six toes has been discovered at the site he was seen.

Helen Pahpasay and her mother spotted the sasquatch as they drove through Grassy Narrows, Kenora in Canada towards a blueberry picking site in the woods.

“I seen a black, um … thing,” Pahpasay said. “It was tall and lanky and it was walking towards our way.

“I thought I was seeing things, so I didn’t say anything,” she said. “I looked over to my mom and she was rubbing her eyes.”

“It was just walking casually,” Helen said. “I know it wasn’t an animal, cause it was upright. It was human like, like the way we walk.”

The two women fled in fear, but when they reached home the whole family banded together to try and find the bigfoot. What they discovered were these incredible six toed footprints measuring over 15 inches long. The footprints were besides a beaver dam, maybe Bigfoot eats beavers to survive?

A cast of the footprint has been taken for analysis.

AlmastyCryptozoologist Richard Freeman is risking terrorist attack in a remote area of Russia perilously close to Chechnya in an attempt to hunt down evidence of the mysterious wildmen, or “Almasty” as they are also known.

The Almasty is a legendary Sasquatch-like creature that is rumoured to live in the Caucasus Mountains, a large humanoid hairy creature which some scientists believe could be a remaining race of primitive man or possibly a hybrid race of Neanderthal and human inter-breeding.

Freeman and his team of explorers arrived in Kabardino Balkaria on the 22 June and met with Ukrainian biologist Grigory Panchenko who has personally seen the creature himself on several occasions and is the leading authority on the Almasty. Unfortunately, the Channel 4 film crew that were meant to be accompanying the expedition were forced to pull out when they were refused work visas.

Panchenko will be guiding the group, and sharing the faecal and bone samples he has already obtained in his previous research. So far the group have set camera traps in locations where previous sightings of the Almasty have been made, and also searched over treacherous terrain for a reported Almasty corpse with unfortunately little success.

Freeman and his group who run The Centre For Fortean Zoology here in the UK have managed to obtain hair samples from what they believe could be an Almasty nest.

The team is set to return with a full report on 12 July, and will hopefully be speaking about their exploits at this year’s Weird Weekend, which The Morningstarr* intend giving a full report on as the weekend unfolds.

Until we get further news the group’s exploits can be read as they are chronicled on the official expedition blog by fellow cryptozoologist and musician Jonathan Downes. Follow this link to the blog: RUSSIA 2008: Search for the Wildman

Blood samples of a strange ape-like creature which has attacked three people and disemboweled over 50 small animals in the La Castellana area of the Philipines have been given to the police to try and determine whether the creature is man or beast.

The unidentified monster, known locally as Amomongo, has been terrorising local residents for the past month. The creature has been described by survivors of the attacks as around five and a half feet tall, and looking like a monkey.

Amomongo

Over the past three to four weeks over 50 chickens and at least one goat have had their entrails ripped out of their stomachs and devoured by the creature.

But the horror doesn’t end there, three people have been attacked by “Amomongo” and received long scratches on their torsos as the Sasquatch-esque beast tried to remove their internal organs to feed on.

Elias Galvez and Salvador Aguilar were both attacked by what they described as a “hairy creature with long nails”. Aguilar managed to fight the beast off and fled to hospital for large scratch wounds. Galvez was luckily rescued when friends heard his cries for help.

Days later when Eric Lasita was attacked by the man-sized hairy monster, he managed to slash the beast with a blade he was carrying as he fought it off. The blood on that blade has now been sent to police labs to ascertain exactly what is attacking the poor folk of La Castellana.

The entire village of Sag-ang in La Castellana where the attacks have taken place is now a no go area after dark, residents retreat to the safety of their homes after nightfall amid unconfirmed fears that there may be more than just one Amomongo at large in the area.
