A boy scout leader from New York is recovering in hospital after being mauled by a foaming rabid beaver.
51-year-old Normand Brousseau was swimming in the Delaware River in eastern Pennsylvania earlier this month when a beaver cut through the water straight into the experienced scout master and began mauling him.
Mr Brousseau was bitten on his chest, legs, arms and buttocks in the frenzied animal attack. Eventually the quick-thinking scout leader grabbed hold of the hairy beaver with both hands and forced the gaping maw shut. The troop of scouts then dragged Mr Brousseau to shore and pelted the dripping beaver with rocks, stoning it to death.
The injured camper was taken to hospital is recovering following a series of rabies jabs.
