The Flaming Lips

Eccentric rockers The Flaming Lips have set the new world record for playing the most amount of live concerts in a 24-hour period.

The band performed eight times as part of MTV’s O Music Awards, their first gig was in Memphis, Tennessee and they finished off in New Orleans, Louisiana with just twenty minutes to spare. The new record beats the previous amount of seven concerts in 24-hours set by Jay-Z in 2006. This is what lead singer and head honcho Wayne Coyne had to say about their tremendous achievement.

To be published alongside the man who ate 22lbs (10kgs) of his own boogers, beside the woman with the longest toenails, or perhaps even to be published beside an individual who has had maybe 1,000 cockroaches stuffed into their ears… that, to me, would be one of life’s absurd joys.

The band’s latest album, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends was released this week. It features collaborations with artists including Nick Cave, Yoko Ono and Erykah Badu.
