After weeks of speculation it has finally been confirmed that Sanctuary will not be getting a fifth season.

Sanctuary began as a web-series in 2007 and was soon picked-up by Syfy for a full season. The show centres on Amanda Tapping’s character Dr Helen Magnus and her organisation which protects various bizarre and cryptid creatures. The show proved a great success for Syfy, leaving fans dismayed by news of the cancellation.

Cast members have already announced they are moving on to new projects. Tapping will be in the directors chair for the new Canadian Primeval spin-off series Primeval: New World. Chris Heyerdahl who portrayed both ‘Bigfoot’ and ‘Jack the Ripper’ will be appearing in the next season of True Blood, and Ryan Robbins has landed a part in season two of Falling Skies.
