Cooking with Poo has been awarded the Diagram Prize for ‘Oddest Title of the Year’.
As disgusting as it sounds, cooking with Poo is actually quite delicious. The poo in question isn’t an oily-loaf or dirty brown trout, Poo is the nickname of a highly talented Bangkok chef called Saiyuud Diwong. In the Thai language ‘poo’ actually means ‘crab’, a popular ingredient in Thai cuisine.
On hearing she’d won the award Saiyuud gave this statement:
“Thank you everyone. I am lucky to have such a funny nickname, it helps my business a lot!”
Saiyuud beat six other titles to win the award, here is the shortlist that Cooking with Poo was up against:
A Century of Sand Dredging in the Bristol Channel: Volume Two by Peter Gosson (Amberley).
Estonian Sock Patterns All Around the World by Aino Praakli (Kirjastus Elmatar).
The Great Singapore Penis Panic: And the Future of American Mass Hysteria by Scott D Mendelson (Createspace).
Mr Andoh’s Pennine Diary: Memoirs of a Japanese Chicken Sexer in 1935 Hebden Bridge by Stephen Curry and Takayoshi Andoh (Royd Press).
A Taxonomy of Office Chairs by Jonathan Olivares (Phaidon).
The Mushroom in Christian Art by John A Rush (North Atlantic Books).
