Chipmunk

A heartless filthy rotter has dumped their pet chipmunk in a Glasgow wheelie bin.

The little stripy squirrel was discovered on Monday afternoon by a man putting out his rubbish. The chap opened the lid of the dustbin and spotted the friendly rodent sitting on top of the rubbish sacks. He called the SSPCA (the Scottish version of the RSPCA) and they quickly attended the scene at Porchester Street in the north of the city.

When the SSPCA inspectors arrived the chipmunk had hidden away amongst the rubbish, after digging through the waste they eventually found the little critter sheltering in an empty jar of peanut butter.

The inspectors were left in no doubt that the furry pet had been deliberately abandoned and not simply escaped.

“It’s unlikely that he got in there by accident because we also found a black bag full of sawdust, food bowls and a water bottle which suggests that his owner has dumped their pet along with its bedding and accessories into the bin.” SSPCA inspector Stacey Erwin said.

The animal rescuers took the chipmunk to the Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Hamilton, where he was unimaginatively christened Alvin. Anyone with any information about the cruel tosser who left Alvin for dead can grass them up to the rozzers by contacting Strathclyde police on 0141 532 2000. That’ll learn them.
