Grinderman

Nick Cave shocked his audience at the Meredith Music Festival last night by announcing that his band, Grinderman, were splitting.

I’m not entirely sure if this can really be considered a split, assuming Cave, Ellis, Casey and Sclavunos continue to record together as Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, but as far as the ‘side-project’ is concerned, Cave says it’s all over.

“That’s it for Grinderman. It’s over.” Cave shouted as they finished their final song.

“See you all in another ten years when we’ll be even older and uglier” the singer quipped before leaving the stage.

Grinderman began in 2006, releasing their début eponymous album a year later to rave reviews. The band took a rawer more rockier sound, more reminiscent of early Birthday Party records than the more current Bad Seeds’ ones Cave has been creating. Their second album, Grinderman 2, even had Cave rocking out playing electric guitar himself.

But Cave and his cohorts appear to have scratched an itch, and called it a day for Grinderman. Stay tuned for news on the eagerly anticipated Bad Seeds album which was due to be released earlier this year, and never materialised.
