The world may be on the brink of having a new title holder of world’s biggest meatball.
The The Columbus Italian Club from Ohio have desperately been trying to set the record for the world’s biggest meatball since the Germans took the title with what the CIC claim is simply a sub-standard meatball.
“Basically, the Germans made a burger but still hold the record for World’s Largest Meatball” says CIC spokesman Chris Beardman.
“Where I grew up, we knew the difference between a burger and meatball. This attempt will restore order and objectivity to the meatball record and ultimately be one step closer to achieving world peace.”
The group attempted to achieve the record feat last year, but made a proper pig’s ear of it when the meatball failed to retain its moisture. So this year the meatball masters were better prepared to keep their meatball nice and moist.
“We did use a turkey baster bag which we saw about three records ago so we were able to keep some of the moisture that we lost last year” Chris explained.
And the team believe they have done it. The massive meatball was cooked at the St. John’s Italian Festival in Columbus, Ohio, this weekend using a specially constructed oven. The end result was a huge, spicy, 1,110.5 lb meatball! The CIC say this smashes the German record of 749.5 lbs, but there is now a tense wait until Guinness World of Records receive all the evidence and confirm the new world record.
