Baby’s face eaten by rats

A baby girl is in a Mumbai hospital undergoing emergency surgery after rats gnawed away her nose, lips and ear.

The mother of two-month-old Bilkis is reported to be mentally ill. Her father works during the night, when he returned home from work on Monday morning he discovered his daughter crying in pain and covered in blood. Rodents had eaten her nose, upper lip, and left ear.

The father took Bilkis straight to Sion Hospital and left her with doctors.

“The rat has eaten away her nose cartilage, ear cartilage and upper lip” paediatric surgeon Dr Paras Kothari explained.

“There are multiple bite marks also in her body. She is presently breathing from her mouth. Luckily her eyes have not been harmed.”

The doctors are working to restore the child’s normal breathing, but she will be horrifically scarred for her entire life.
