PoolTwo pocket billiard players from County Durham have smashed the world record with a 72-hour marathon pool match.

Colin Pilcher and Marc Murray decided to try and beat the previous record of 53 hours 25 minutes of constant pool playing in aide of local charity Heel and Toe, who help children with dyspraxia.

The pair started playing at 19:00 on Sunday 31st July and played non-stop for the full 72 hours, potting the very last ball at 19:02 on Wednesday 3rd August. The pair celebrated with a nice pint and spoke of just how gruelling the record breaking attempt had been.

“I was not expecting the physical aspect to be so bad – we got blisters from walking around the table and all our muscles were aching, but we got through it,” Marc Murray said.

Colin emerged victorious from the event, he won a grand total of 335 pool matches to Marc’s 321.

The pair of green baize gladiators have so far managed to raise over £2,000 for Heel and Toe, but you can still make donations on their web page: Pool Addicts

All that remains is for Guinness World of Records to officially confirm the record.
