Captured crocodile

Swimmers at a tourist hot-spot in Russia got the fright of their lives this week when a two metre long crocodile swam into the lake with them.

Lake Shira in Siberia, eastern Russia is a popular spot with tourists for swimming and other water sports. A local photographer hatched a cool money making scheme by taking his pet crocodile along to the lake and selling photographs of people posing with the reptile.

However this week things went a bit pear-shaped when the bored crocodile managed to shake of it’s leash and bolted into the water amongst the other swimmers.

Eye-witness Anna Ilia described spotting the crocodile floating alongside the boat she was sailing in.

“We were sailing out in a catamaran and I saw what looked like a log in the lake” Anna explained.

“I poked the log with a stick and realised it was a crocodile. We were terrified, the whole lake began to panic.”

Lifeguards patrolling the lake quickly managed to apprehend the huge reptile, after posing for a few photographs themselves they simply handed the crocodile back to its owner and told him not to let it happen again.
