Police are investigating what appears to be a tragic accident which saw an enthusiastic snake breeder killed by one of his own cobras.

At around 14:00 this afternoon police were called to a property in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, where a man had died of a suspected heart attack after allegedly being bitten by a venomous snake. It is believed that the dead man is local snake breeder Luke Yeomans, who has built a king cobra sanctuary in Eastwood which houses 20 adults and four juvenile king cobras, the world’s largest venomous serpents.

It is especially sad that Luke had only recently spoken to the BBC about how he had started the sanctuary in 2008 as a “safety net” to save the species from possible extinction. Luke was planning on opening the sanctuary to the public this very weekend, to educate people about the huge reptiles.
