Ed Port41-year-old neurofibromatosis sufferer Ed Port from Ohio will finally be getting the miracle he’s been praying for.

This week Ed will be flying to Chicago to have the first in a series of operations to remove the huge tumour growing on the side of his fizzog. Ed has been afflicted with facial tumours since childhood, and despite previous surgery to correct the situation once Ed reached adulthood insurance companies began to flatly refuse to cover his medical bills, saying the procedures were merely ‘cosmetic’.

The shocking deformity to Ed’s face is clearly much more than a cosmetic problem. Besides the fact that the tumours are effecting Ed’s sight and hearing, his appearance obviously has a massive effect on his social life and employment prospects which has a serious knock on effect to people’s mental well being.

Thankfully help is now on its way, one insurance company have agreed to assist Ed in paying some of his medical bills and renowned plastic surgeon Dr. McKay McKinnon has agreed to operate on Ed.

“I believe Mr. Port has been mistreated by insurance companies in the past who have said the surgery is cosmetic,” Dr. McKinnon said.

“We’ll remove as much of his tumour as possible and try to produce a permanent result,” the good doctor promised.

It’s not all clear sailing though, Ed will have to undergo three massive operations each up to 12 hours long, and the insurance company have only agreed to pay for 80% of the procedures which could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
