West African dwarf crocodilePolice in south London have confiscated four crocodiles from a home in Croydon.

The largest of the reptiles was over a metre long, although that specimen died shortly after being removed from the house. The animals were West African dwarf crocodiles, although one of the smallest crocodile species they still grow to between 1.5 – 2 metres and could give you a very nasty bite.

The owner of the crocodiles told police that he had bought the critters in the UK, after they had been smuggled in illegally.

The owner is likely to be charged under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976.
