Conjoined baby girls Sarah and Ekram were surgically separated by Saudi doctors yesterday.
The Algerian twins were flown in to Saudi Arabia earlier this month on the orders of King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz himself. The baby Siamese twins were joined at the vagina, urethra, anus and rectum and it took 11-hours in surgery to separate the girls who are now reported to be making a full recovery.
“This operation is a message of love and a renunciation of hatred and chaos,” Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeah, Minister of Health, who led the operation said.
“The blood that oozed out during the operation should be seen as a symbol of preserving human life unlike what we currently see on TV screens.”
Nice.
