Toojay's World Class Corned Beef Eating ChampionshipSt Patrick’s Day is here, and with it comes TooJay’s World Class Corned Beef Eating Championship, which is held every March 17th.

This contest sees the start of MLE’s competitive eating season, and world number one gurgitator Joey Chestnut has started on a high, by gobbling 14.5 corned beef sandwiches. Each sandwich was made with rye bread and weighed 8oz, contestants were given ten minutes to demolish as many sandwiches as possible.

Second place went to Pat Bertoletti (12.5 sandwiches), in third was Bob Shoudt with 11.5 and female gurgitator Juliet Lee took fourth position with 9.5 corned dog butties.

Chestnut was one sandwich down on his result at last year’s TooJay’s, but $7,500 up as the first prize money jumped to a whopping $12,500 this year! That’s £7,745, or £535 a sandwich. Not bad work, if you can get it.
