Culture officials from China are making a push in trying to export a bizarre Chinese delicacy, eggs boiled in young boys’ wee-wee.
The unappetizing eggs are known as ‘tong zi dan‘ which literally translates as ‘Boy Egg‘. Boy Eggs have been considered a delicacy in Dongyang for thousands of years, the eggs are boiled in freshly collected urine from prepubescent boys. According to chef Lu Ming, the younger the boys, the better the piss.
“The urine is gathered from local schools and the very best comes from boys under 10 years old,” Ming said.
“They pee in buckets and we collect it fresh every day.”
Urine soaked boiled eggs were even listed as part of Dongyang’s cultural heritage back in 2008. The traditional food is only prepared and eaten in the spring and aficionados of the Boys Eggs believe there are many health benefits. Doctors who practice traditional Chinese medicine agree that urine has lots of beneficial qualities when consumed, and eggs are also very nutritious.
The eggs aren’t just boiled for three minutes and served with toast soldiers, first the eggs are soaked in the young lad’s pee-pee then heated on the stove. Once the piss has begun to boil the eggs can be cracked and more urine poured in so it soaks into the eggs, which are then simmered in piss for an entire day.
Lu MIng is keen to see the entire world enjoying piss-soaked eggs.
“We are having a big export push because we want people outside China to fully appreciate the delicacy of our cuisine,”
I’m not sure how successful this promotion will be, but I would suggest Ming has a punt in Dublin, Ohio where I’m sure he will find at least one greedy customer.
