A new record was set at this weeks Wing Bowl 2011 the world’s biggest chicken wing eating contest which is held in Philadelphia every year on the Friday before Superbowl and draws crowds of over 20,000 spectators.
25-year-old Jonathan “Super Squibb” Squibb from New Jersey won the Wing Bowl for the third year in a row, ever since professional competitive eaters were banned from the event. And to his credit Squibb managed to beat the world record which was set by the world’s top professional eater Joey Chestnut back in 2008.
Squibb managed to gorge his way to victory by guzzling a record breaking 255 chicken wings, which beat Chestnut’s record by 14. But it was a close run race, local wing eater Bill “El Wingador” Simmons who has won the competition five times came a very close second just one chicken wing behind Squibb.
Also making an appearance at Wing Bowl 19 was renegade competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi. Kobayashi refused to sign a contract with Major League Eating last year and is eligible to compete in Wing Bowl, however the Japanese gurgitator was only attending this year to perform an exhibition act by eating a Philadelphia cheese steak in 24.3 seconds, which is believed to be a world record.
Kobayashi indicated that he would be competing in the main event at Wing Bowl 20 in 2012.
