Two-headed lizardThe owner of a mobile wildlife education company in Australia got a nice surprise over the Christmas period, she became the proud owner of a two-headed bearded dragon.

Lee Webley is the founder of Animals of Oz and has years of experience in reptile husbandry. Around four weeks ago one of a batch of dragon eggs being incubated hatched to reveal a big surprise in a small package.

“At first, I thought it was one sitting on top of the other but then I took a closer look,” Ms Webley said.

“I was very surprised to see they were joined.”

The double-headed critter is actually a pair of conjoined lizards with two heads, two tails, two sets of lungs and two separate digestive systems. But the animals are joined at the spine and only have four legs between them, giving the impression they’re just a two-headed, two-tailed lizard.

In the wild a conjoined lizard like this would never survive, but with the care and attention given by Ms Webley there’s no reason why the lizard won’t grow in to a full adult bearded dragon.
