Whilst Joey Chestnut was farting around speed-eating meatballs this weekend the rest of competitive eating’s big names were battling against each other to become champion sandwich eater at the Maid-Rite Sandwich Eating Championships in Iowa.
Pat Bertoletti gave another impressive performance during the event and once again bested Bob Shoudt. Last month Bertoletti shoved Shoudt out of the #2 position on the official MLE rankings, and ‘Notorious Bob’ isn’t taking that position back easily.
Bertoletti walked away with $2,500 prize money this weekend after downing a full 26 loose meat sandwiches in just ten minutes, a new world record. Shoudt was three sandwiches behind his rival at the end of time.
World #4 competitive eater Sonya Thomas was deprived of third place by the #5 ranked Timothy Janus. Janus demolished 21 sandwiches, narrowly defeating the world’s greatest female competitive eater who managed to gobble up 20 butties.
