3,000 King Cobras invade town

King cobraAn entire town in China has had to be evacuated after 3,000 deadly King Cobra’s escaped from an illegal breeding farm.

3,000 hatchling cobras that were bred illegally for the traditional medicine market escaped from their cage in a house in Xianling, south west China. The deadly snakes then made their way right across town.

Residents of the town were quickly evacuated and experts set about rounding the serpents up, but so far only a small number have been recaptured.

“We don’t really know how many survived but we caught 170 of them so we think a lot are still missing,” a police spokesman said.

Cai Yong has been arrested for breeding venomous snakes without a licence.
