Firemen in Staffordshire were called out last week to rescue a dog stuck 30ft up a horse chestnut tree.
Kea Jenkins was walking eight dogs across Cannock Chase in Staffordshire last Friday when one of her dogs, an eight-year-old border collie named Belle went missing.
Mrs Jenkins was frantic when she realised Belle had disappeared and organised a search party to try and find the missing pooch. The group spent almost six hours searching the ground for Belle, who was only discovered up the tree when she barked as Mrs Jenkins walked underneath.
Belle is believed to have climbed the tree herself by running up the trunk and then becoming stuck on a narrow branch 30ft in the air.
“She had run up a part of the tree that was quite steep but wide, a low-slung branch overhanging a farmer’s field.” Mrs Jenkins explained.
“The branch she was stuck on was less than eight inches wide and she was dangling with her back legs either side of it. She spent almost six hours up there.”
Fire crews were called to rescue poor Belle and they attended the scene promptly despite suspicions the call must have been a hoax.
“I have served with Staffs fire service for 34 years and as far as I am aware this is the first time we’ve had to rescue a dog from a tree.” Firefighter Paul Bowen told the BBC.
