Former Coronation Street actress Suranne Jones has been confirmed as guest star in the third episode of the forthcoming series of Doctor Who which has just begun filming.
Chadderton lass Jones has been lined up to appear in the Doctor Who episode which was written by comic book writer Neil Gaiman, filming of the episode started yesterday and will be broadcast at the beginning of next year. Jones says she is thrilled to be appearing in the show, and Gaiman says he is also impressed with the casting.
“As an actor, it’s hugely exciting to be cast in Doctor Who,” Jones says on the official BBC website.
“I’m a massive fan of the show and I was blown away when I read Neil’s script and uncovered what’s in store for my character.”
Jones explained that she was sworn to secrecy and unable to give away any secrets about her character, but writer Neil Gaiman might have let something slip,
“It’s the kind of role that people will remember forever, so we needed someone who was able to pull that off, and to keep up with Matt Smith. And bite him. Suranne does all three.” Gaiman said.
It sounds like Jones will really be sinking her teeth into this role.
In other Doctor Who news the show’s star Matt Smith has denied the rumours that his co-star Karen Gillan is to be killed off during the next season.
“She can’t die, Amy Pond can’t die. No way, I’d be sad. I’d miss Karen,” the actor told The Belfast Telegraph.
“I just think for this particular Doctor, his bond with Amy, I think there’s a lot more mileage in it yet.”
Smith then assured fans that he would use his own influence on showrunner Steven Moffat to ensure that Gillan is not axed from the show.
As we said previously though, that doesn’t necessarily mean Amy Pond won’t die.
