Black cobraIncredible scenes in Ghana again this week as witnesses claim a large black snake transformed into a human.

Adelaide Yeboah is the pastor’s wife at the church in Kumasi where the drama unfolded. Yeboah told local reporters from Peace FM how her attention was raised by a ruckus outside the church.

“I was at home when I heard people shouting that there was a snake in front of the church.”

Mrs Yeboah went outside to see what the commotion was all about and found a large group of people chasing a very large black cobra down the street, trying to kill it. The snake, clearly in fear of it’s life took refuge in a nearby drainage tunnel. The angry mob decided to pour scorching hot water down the culvert to force the cobra back out, but to their sheer amazement when they poured the hot liquid down the drain it was a scalded woman who came climbing out of the tunnel.

“When the people shouted that the snake had turned into a human being, the woman angrily responded, ‘and so what’” Mrs Yeboah said.

The woman then began to writhe her body in a snake-like manner and the gathered crowd quickly decided that the snake had metamorphosed into the woman, obviously through the use of black magic or voodoo.

Fearing for the woman’s safety Mrs Yeboah called the local police to escort her away, word soon spread of the ‘snake-woman’ and a huge crowd of superstitious locals descended on the police station where the woman was being sheltered. Reinforcements were drafted in from neighbouring police stations to help disperse the hysterical yokels.

Police Superintendent Kwaku Buah later gave a statement saying that the woman was not a snake but she was a mentally ill person who had been sleeping in the drain. The cobra has not been located.
