Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman comic books are set to become a television show, planning and development have begun the early stages.
Warner Bros. Television are currently in negotiations with sister company DC Entertainment to acquire the rights to make a TV show of the comic. A movie version of the popular comics has long been anticipated, but the welcome switch to the small screen is just about underway.
As the show is still in the very early stages no casting rumours have been leaked, but the news is that Supernatural creator Eric Kripke is the first choice by Warner Bros. for showrunner on The Sandman. Kripke is said to be interested, but apprehensive about upsetting the comic book’s army of fans.
For anyone unfamiliar with The Sandman it was first published in 1989 and continued for seven years and 75 issues. The story follows the main character Dream, who is the anthropomorphic personification of dreams, and the rebuilding his kingdom which falls into disrepair after he is made prisoner for 70 years. Other characters in the series include more personified abstract concepts, such as Destiny, Destruction, Despair, Desire, Delirium and of course Death. Here at The Morningstarr* we’re also hoping that our namesake Lucifer will also be transferred from the comic to the television show.
