Fei JianjunDoctors in China have agreed to treat poor Fei Jianjun free of charge after the 41-year-old developed an enormous cancerous tumour.

Fei, who is known as ‘Hippo Man’ in his hometown of Maxiang in Jilin province, developed a small red zit on the end of his shnozzle almost a year ago. Unfortunately for Fei the red zit just kept growing and growing until it swallowed up most of his face.

As with a lot of seriously deformed folk in rural parts of China, Fei and his family simply can’t afford expensive medical treatment. For the past 12 months Fei has been struggling to get by doing odd jobs for people in order to raise some cash for pain relievers.

Eventually Fei’s family took him to a hospital in the city of Jilin and doctors agreed to treat Fei free of charge. The tumour was diagnosed as cancerous, and medics told Fei that without the treatment he would be dead in less than six months.

The Hippo Man will first be given radiotherapy to shrink the tumour and then plastic surgery to correct his face.
