An Islamic court in Saudi Arabia is considering surgically paralysing a man by operating on his spine as punishment for his crimes.

Amnesty International are reported to be outraged that the Saudi courts are considering this bizarre method of punishment, which they claim is simply torture.

The criminal has already been sentenced to seven months in prison for getting into a fight with another man and leaving him paralysed. Relatives of the crippled Arab have requested that the judges serve a retribution sentence and have the man medically incapacitated by having surgeons operate on his spine and cut the spinal cord.

The court have approached a number of hospitals and doctors to see if the procedure is viable.
