Black widowA deadly black widow spider has been discovered on an imported American truck in a barn in County Durham.

The owner of the truck, which had been imported from California was brushing cobwebs from the vehicle when he spotted the deadly arachnid. With a seemingly cavalier attitude the truck owner caught the venomous little critter in a plastic Tupperware container and took it to the local police station in Spennymoor.

The spider was identified as a deadly female black widow by police wildlife liaison officer Inspector Eddie Bell, and it was later confirmed by boffins at Bristol Zoo.

The nasty creature will now be transported to Bristol Zoo and Inspector Bell has given the all clear after searching for any other spiders on the truck. Further to this the authorities along the containers’ transportation route have also been made aware of the possibility of black widows roaming the British countryside.

  2. LOL. I was born and raised and still live in California, and we have black widows everywhere! On my patio, there’s at least 60 of them. They never hurt anybody though.

  3. Hey ‘Turtle’, my husband just spent 5 days on the hospital from a Black Widow bite. And they never hurt anybody? Second deadliest spider next to a Brown Recluse. Stupid.
