Torchwood: The New World

Russell T. Davies has been revealing more about the forthcoming international series of Torchwood which is being produced by the BBC and American cable network Starz Entertainment.

The working title of season four is Torchwood: The New World and it sees the return of John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper and also Kai Owen as Rhys Williams, Gwen’s husband. Season four will be filmed in several different global locations but primarily Cardiff and Los Angeles where the team will become based. Davies has announced that this season will have ten episodes with a continual story arc.

As for new faces to the team Davies has revealed that two CIA agents will be joining Capt. Jack and Co to complete the brand new Torchwood team, although no casting decisions have been made so far. Earlier this week James Marsters said in an interview he would be keen to return to the show, but unfortunately for Capt. John Hart fans Davies has ruled out his return in season four.

Other news on the Torchwood production is the enlisting of three other writers to work alongside Davies. John Fay who worked on two episodes of Torchwood: Children of Earth is onboard to write some episodes and so are American writers John Shiban and Jane Espenson. Espenson has previously worked with Joss Whedon writing episodes of his shows, Dollhouse, Angel, Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Shiban’s previous credits include Supernatural, The X-Files and Legend of the Seeker.

Filming is due to begin in January and Torchwood: The New World will be broadcast in both the UK and the US in summer 2011.
