Witnesses have reported seeing a “Loch Ness Monster” type creature chasing shoals of fish just metres off the coast of Devon.
The creature was described as resembling a turtle but around the same size as a sea lion, with large front flippers and smaller back flippers. The most striking and unexplainable part is the creatures “reptilian” head and a long slender neck which is a similar description to the legendary Loch Ness Monster which some believe to be a long lost descendant of the plesiosaur, a carnivorous aquatic reptile from the Jurassic Period.
Gill Pearce spotted the creature on Tuesday (27th July) chasing after fish just a 20 metres off the coast at Saltern Cove in Paignton, Devon. The fish which were being chased by the large predator were so alarmed they even beached themselves in their attempts to escape from the monster.
The sighting was reported to the Marine Conservation Society who ruled out a number of possibilities. Clare Fischer from the MCS explained that it couldn’t have been a turtle, as they don’t eat fish; only jellyfish. And she also ruled out the chance of the creature being the sperm whale which was spotted of the Devonshire coast recently as it could not have swam so close to the shore.

No, it looks like it wasn’t a hoax but it’s boring. I am on holiday close by and saw similar myself this morning at 10am three coves south. Was I quaking in my shoes? No, becuse it is just a large turtle. These people need new glasses if they thought it was a plesiosaur. Should have gone to specsavers!

Spotted strange creature from the boat house restaurant while tide was outand it was very overcast weather wise. This creature had the head of a nessie and i watched it go from one pier to the othe then go under the middle section of the rail bridge heading into the open sea. What was most surprising was the speed of the thing. It moved faster thn the zeebrugge fery and didnt dive under and come up for air like a dolphin seal or whale but remained static. I called the maitre d over and we both obsrrved it thro the restaurants telescope, he dismissed it as a seal but it couldnt have been nor a submarine as the water in the pier opposite with the tide out was very shallow. It wasnt until i saw the bbc pogramme tonite with the hoteliers footage of nessie tat i realised ive witnessed the same type of animal .
How it could survive in the forth is beyond me the water is so dirty even the local seaweed is dark brown – portobello aug 2010. But i stand by what i saw in 2008.
