Pat BertolettiPat Bertoletti, Joey Chestnut and Tim Janus were all at the San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday to compete in the Red Faction Mars Bar Eating Championship.

The event was organised by video game company THQ and sanctioned by Major League Eating. THQ were promoting the forthcoming release of their new game, Red Faction: Armageddon which is set on the red planet of Mars.

The Mars Bar event was over a five minute period and Bertoletti managed to consume an amazing 38 chocolate bars in the time allowed. Chestnut took second place with a mere 20 bars and Tim Janus performed appallingly managing only 10 Mars Bars in five minutes.

The first minute of the event was being monitored by officials from Guinness World of Records, during those 60 seconds the three gurgitators had specific rules they had to follow; each Mars Bar had to weigh at least 49 grams and remained wrapped until the start of the one minute timeframe. The competitors weren’t allowed to drink any liquids either whilst the record attempt was being made, and they had to completely empty their mouths before moving on to the next bar.

At the end of that first minute both Bertoletti and Chestnut had both eaten three bars each and so they share the title for ‘Most Chocolate Bars Eaten in One Minute’.
