Nicky WireManic Street Preachers lyricist and bassist Nicky Wire has revealed on the band’s website that he’s currently writing a script for Doctor Who.

Wire has blogged that the script is entitled ‘Do Not Go Gently’ and is about poet Dylan Thomas’ last days in New York. The BBC and Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat have so far declined to comment on whether the script will be used as part of the next series. The idea of a script penned by a pop star and featuring a Welsh poet may seem bizarre, but the same might have been said about a script written for Doctor Who by Richard Curtis featuring Vincent Van Gogh.

What is for certain is that the Manics will be releasing a brand new album in September called ‘Postcards From A Young Man’, and they will be playing an intimate gig in London on 5th August. Tickets for the gig are invite only and you need to register your details on their website to be in with a chance of getting one.
