The third suspect in a necrophilia case has been found guilty today at a Wisconsin court.
Alexander Grunke, his brother Nicholas Grunke and a third man Dustin Radke, all from Grant County in Wisconsin were arrested in 2006 after the ghoulish trio attempted to exhume the recently deceased Laura Tennessen from her grave in order to have sex with her corpse.
The three men had driven out to the Cassville cemetery with the intention of engaging in a little necrophilia, they even made a stop on the way at a Wal-Mart to buy condoms. The mission did not go according to plan though when the two brothers and their friend hit the top of the concrete tomb and gave up. A nearby resident called the police to report a suspicious car parked close to the cemetery and when a patrol car arrived they caught Radke wandering around the graveyard. Radke immediately blurted out the terrible plan and the police set out to hunt the two brothers down. They were picked up soon afterwards and all three were arrested and charged with attempted third-degree sexual assault.
Dustin Radke and Nicholas Grunke were both convicted for theft, damage to property and attempted third degree sexual assault in July last year. Radke had entered a plea bargain which earned him a lesser sentence of one year, Nicholas Grunke who seems to have been the driving force behind the attempt at grave robbing was handed a two year sentence.
Alexander Grunke has previously been found guilty on the theft and damage to property charges, and today a jury found him guilty on the charge of attempted third degree sexual assault. The trial has taken four years due to legal arguments surrounding the necrophilia, initially the three men were only charged with theft and damage to property as it wasn’t clearly defined that sex with corpses was illegal. In 2008 the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that the men could be charged with attempted third degree sexual assault.
A sentencing date for Alexander Grunke has not yet been set.
