Former Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook is spearheading a brand new TV talent show to rival the likes of Simon Cowell’s crappy X Factor.
The show is entitled The Source and Hooky will be hosting it from The Factory indie-club in Manchester which he owns. The show will have a completely different concept to the current TV talent shows which churn out pop-puppets controlled by music executives, and who have little or no creative input into their records or performances.
On The Source bands will have full creative freedom and will be judged solely by the viewers and not a panel of pantomime buffoons pretending to know anything about musical talent. That isn’t to say the show won’t have it’s share of celebrity appearances, joining Hooky will be one of Manchester’s finest, Ian Brown and also possibly one of the greatest pop musicians of the past 30 years, Peter Gabriel.
Gabriel and Brown have been enlisted by Hooky to act as mentors to the host of unsigned acts who will be competing for viewers votes.
The show will be broadcast daily from 12th September on Manchester’s satellite station Channel M, which is 203 on your Sky remote. 120 acts will be competing and the eventual winner will receive £10,000 and a record deal.

This is factually incorrect. Ian Brown is not a part of the show and Hooky is not hosting it, nor has he asked Peter Gabriel to join him. For an accurate press release please contact us. You will note a retraction was published on Friday 23rd July.
