A young woman from Brighton has suffered head injuries and was left bloodied and dazed following a frenzied seagull attack.
29-year-old Amy Derham who is a student at Hove College was walking along Palmeira Avenue in Hove when she spotted a young seagull sat in the middle of the pavement. Ms Derham made every effort to avoid the creature and crossed over to the opposite side of the road.
“I left college just before 2pm, was walking down Palmeira Avenue and saw a baby seagull sat down on the pavement making a high-pitched squeak. I thought to myself ‘I am not going anywhere near that’ so I crossed the road.” Ms Derham told the Brighton Argus.
But despite her best efforts to avoid the baby gull she was still attacked from above by a large adult seagull.
“The next thing I know I was hit on the head by what looked like an adult seagull swooping down from behind me – it was extremely painful and happened all of a sudden.” Ms Derham said.
“I was in a daze, looking to see if the bird would come back again and that’s when I noticed drops of blood pouring from my head on to my hands.”
Ms Derham went directly to the nearby Goodwood Court Surgery to seek medical assistance for her injuries and was given a tetanus injection.
Experts are warning people that there are a lot of young seagulls around at this time of year and they should be given a wide berth as adult seagulls will attack if provoked.
