Dead man found with penis hacked off

A man found dead in South Africa this week was seriously mutilated, his naked body was discovered with the genitals missing.

Peter Shavula went missing on Sunday night after watching the World Cup final in a bar in Mpumalanga, eastern South Africa. On Monday evening his body was found dumped in bushes which locals used as a makeshift toilet. Shavula was naked, with stab wounds to his neck and chest, his penis had been sliced off and unconfirmed reports suggest the organ was found a few yards from his body.

Police do not suspect muti or ritual murder, as the reproductive organ seems to have been retrieved, and they are investigating the incident as a random, motiveless attack. Locals however believe the attack was motivated by xenophobia as Shavula is a native of Malawi.
