The former champion of the Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest, Takeru Kobayashi was arrested and taken into police custody immediately after the winner was announced.
Kobayashi was absent from the contest due to a contract dispute with the International Federation of Competitive Eating, but he was in the crowd watching as his arch-rival Joey Chestnut gorged his way to victory this afternoon. Once the contest ended Kobayashi tried to get up on stage and was involved in a scuffle with police officers who dragged him away and placed him in custody.
