Dwarf burglar and hard drinker Lee Kildare from Tyneside was in court again this week, this time for threatening the police and carrying an offensive weapon.
3ft 11in Kildare was arrested after police were called to Chalfont Road, Walker, Newcastle, on 5th June following reports of a man seen brandishing a baseball bat. When officers arrived on the scene they were immediately aware that Kildare was three sheets to the wind and asked him to surrender the baseball bat.
“He didn’t reply but was clearly drunk. They eventually disarmed him. But he swore at them and said ‘I have got some mates, I will get your face smashed in’” Prosecutor Clive Freemantle told the court.
“When he was interviewed he said he had been drinking for two days and had the baseball bat as he was looking for a person he had had a dispute with. He was intending to attack.”
The defence solicitor acting for Kildare told Newcastle Magistrates’ court that his client didn’t stand by the comments he made during the police interview and now claims that he was merely taking the baseball bat home and it was a gift from a friend.
The solicitor also made a point of stating that Kildare’s drunkenness is a direct result of not being able to handle alcohol very well due to his small stature.
The 24-year-old dwarf was also charged with failing to appear when he didn’t show up for a previous court appearance. Kildare pleaded not guilty to that charge and said he had been too unwell to attend. Kildare was released on bail and will be sentenced later this month when magistrates want to see a sick note to cover his previous absence.
