David TennantFormer Doctor Who star David Tennant is shooting a romantic comedy alongside fellow Scot and Trainspotting actress Kelly MacDonald.

The Decoy Bride also stars Sex and the City 2 actress Alice Eve and Ugly Betty queen Michael Urie. Tennant will play a British writer who is engaged to a famous Hollywood actress (Eve), the pair plan to get married on a remote Scottish island but the wedding is ruined by gangs of photographers and reporters.

Urie plays the role of the bride’s manager and goes about trying to salvage the wedding and comes up with the idea of a ‘decoy bride’ to draw the attention of the paparazzi , which is where MacDonald comes into the picture. Predictably Tennant’s character falls in love with the decoy and it all sounds truly dreadful.

There may be a glimmer of hope though, besides the fairly impressive cast the film has been co-written by Smack The Pony‘s Sally Phillips, who also has a role in the film. And it’s being directed by Sheree Folkson who has previously directed Tennant when he starred in Casanova and she also directed Urie when she worked on Ugly Betty.

As far as romcoms go this does show a little promise, but hopefully Tennant will stick to making films like Fright Night or Burke and Hare rather than trying to be the new Hugh Grant.

One Response to David Tennant is making a romantic comedy

  1. why don’t you wait until these movies are finished before you rate tennant’s performance! how ridiculous that you would say he should do fright nite and not do romantic comedies! you must be psychic! if you saw blackpool you might change your mind, or maybe you just don’t like tennant!
