A man from Buxton, Derbyshire is warning local residents not to leave their babies unattended after he says he spotted a panther lurking about the area.
David Chappell says he spotted the big cat early Friday evening whilst strolling along a footpath behind the Rock Bay garage on Leek Road.
“I was just walking up the footpath when I could see something behind a tree.” Mr Chappell explained.
“At first I thought it might be a deer or something so I waited for it to emerge. When it did, I realised it was a big cat. I was stood about 75 yards away from it and just tried to take in as much detail as I possibly could. It was distinctly feline.
“My main concern is for people living in the houses nearby because it was on the footpath behind the houses.
“I don’t want to worry anyone. I just want people to be warned about it and look out for it and for people not to do anything silly like leaving their babies or children in their gardens unattended.”
Mr Chappell report what he had seen to the local police and the Environment Agency. Here’s an interactive map of where the sighting is reported to have took place.
