Polish soldier has woman’s hands grafted on

A soldier from Poland has had unique transplant surgery which has given him lady’s fingers.

The unnamed man is a 31 year old soldier who was mutilated by an exploding bomb which blew off his left hand and severely damaged his right, leaving him with only two fingers. Surgeons in Poland worked for 24 hours transplanting the hands on to the patient, and they say that the gender of the donor wasn’t an issue providing the anatomic parameters suited the recipient.

The hands were taken from a recently deceased middle aged woman who had been at a different hospital.

The surgeons have reported that the operation had been a complete success and the recipient could already move the fingers on his new hands.
