Kylie Minogue71 year old Doug Williams, a great-grandfather and parent of Commonwealth Games gold medal winner Ray Williams has set a brand new world record in over 70s weightlifting.

Doug took up weightlifting 21 years ago, but now he’s passed the 70 mark he was eligible to have a fair crack at the over 70s record, and he managed to break a record which has stood for a full 17 years. Whilst taking part in the European Masters event in Coventry, Doug managed to lift a hefty 165kg, beating the previous record by 4kg. Just to put that into perspective, Doug is as old as Sir Ian McKellen and 165kg is like lifting almost four Kylie Minogues.
