The latest news on the Judge Dredd movie front is that the project has received funding and will be getting a lot of attention at the Cannes Film Festival when it kicks off tomorrow.

Deadline got the scoop that Reliance Big Entertainment came up with $50 million to finance the film at the Cannes pre-sale. The more interesting news however is that a director has now been assigned and the film is reported to be coming at us in 3D.

Pete Travis who’s previously directed a couple of episodes of TV show Cold Feet in the 90s and moved on to direct the movies Vantage Point and Endgame in the past few years will be helming the new Dredd. As previously reported the screenplay has been written by Alex Garland of 28 Days Later fame.
