And this time it’s falafel!
Following Saturday’s world record smashing 10 tonne bowl of hummus, Lebanese chefs have now cooked up five tonnes of falafel with whatever chickpeas they had left over.
On Sunday 300 chefs worked together to produce 5,173kg of the deep-fried savoury snack. Falafel is made from chickpeas, broad beans, onions and garlic. Guinness World of Records representatives were on site to confirm the record, it’s actually the first time the record has even been attempted but it’s clearly a challenge or a taunt in the direction of Israel.
The two countries are locked in a culinary dispute over which nation can lay claim to certain Middle Eastern delicacies. Dishes such as falafel, hummus and also tabbouleh are at the heart of the dispute. Israel claims to be the rightful home of the recipes, but Lebanon insists the foods are of Arab origin. And so the fight continues.
