56 year old Christopher Weaver died earlier this month after the bees he kept turned on him.
Mr Weaver had been keeping beehives for years and had been stung many times in the past without any dramatic effect, but on 12th April whilst feeding his bees he suffered a number of stings on his chest and stomach which proved fatal.
A friend of Mr Weaver’s who was with him on his allotment in Coalville, Leicestershire called paramedics who spent 30 minutes trying to revive him. The medics were able to get Mr Weaver breathing again but he was brain dead by the time he got to hospital. A postmortem found that bee venom had made it’s way into Mr Weaver’s heart and stopped the blood supply, a result of anaphylactic shock, a severe allergic reaction to the bee’s venom.
On the day of the attack Mr Weaver had taken off his shirt and wasn’t wearing any protective clothing usually associated with keeping bees, friends and family explained that Mr Weaver had plenty of experience keeping bees and felt confident he was safe with his shirt off.
