Captain Jack HarknessBBC Worldwide Productions released a statement this week saying they were no longer working with Fox on an American version of the Doctor Who spin-off show Torchwood.

“BBC Worldwide Productions and the Fox Broadcasting Company have mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialised Torchwood format,” said BBC Worldwide. “We are currently in discussion with several interested networks.”

Whether this is good or bad news is not yet clear. The statement implies that all is not lost for a US version of Torchwood, if these other interested networks do exist then there is probably a much more suitable partner than Fox, who have a seriously bad reputation for ruining great sci-fi shows.

BBC Worldwide executive vice president of programming and production Jane Tranter assured fans that Torchwood is “very much ongoing and very much alive.” But in what format and in what country is still unclear, we may be in for quite a wait until the show eventually returns to our screens, if at all.
