HaggisAs part of a promotion for Scottish takeaways, Just-Eat polled 1,623 Brits on what they knew about haggis.

Haggis of course is the Scottish delicacy of minced sheep’s heart, liver and lungs wrapped in the animal’s intestines and simmered for three hours. It became the national dish when it was immortalised in the famous poem by Robert Burns, Address to a Haggis and is traditionally eaten on Burns Night.

A long standing joke has been that the haggis is a small furry creature which lives in the Scottish Highlands, but according to Just-Eat’s poll as many as 20% of people in Britain actually believed it! Some of those that thought the haggis was an animal were even Scottish, out of the 781 Scots who took part in the poll 14% admitted they didn’t know what haggis was.

15% of people who were polled believed that the haggis was a Scottish musical instrument, and 4% actually thought it was a character from Harry Potter.

  1. Aye and do not forget the shorter legs on
one side as they only go clockwise around the Munros.
The Scotsman has web cameras out for them around Hogmanay so watch the web casts and

  2. You do realise that a very large number of Scots, myself included, find being referred to as “Brits” or “British” offensive? I don’t,never have and never will consider myself as British!

  5. I have been told that the haggis is english. anyway that”s beside the point.
i have now heard and it seems logical
that the rich in their castles would
eat most of the main meat and leave the
offal to their servants. Now over time
through trial and error the poor have
succeeded in producing a lovely and very
tasty meal. as ground keeper willy in the Simpsons would say.
    HAGGIS.made from minced sheep”s heart,
liver and lungs wrapped in the animals
intestines Tastes as good as it sounds.
