The TV clairvoyant arrested in Saudi Arabia for sorcery is due to be publicly beheaded on Friday.
The family and lawyer for Lebanese TV host Ali Hussain Sibat say they have been informed that Saudi authorities plan to carry out the death sentence imposed on the 48 year old father of five this Friday.
Sibat was convicted of witchcraft last November after the Saudi religious police pounced on him as he visited Saudi Arabia as part of an Islamic religious pilgrimage. The Lebanese national was accused and convicted of sorcery for running a television phone-in show where he would supposedly predict the future and offer his audience advice based on his predictions.
An appeal was held earlier this month, but Sibat lost and the death penalty was upheld. Sibat’s lawyer, May El Khansa has appealed to Lebanon’s prime minister, Saad Hariri, and the president, Michel Suleiman, to stop the execution. Amnesty International have also tried to assist by contacting the Saudi ruler, King Abdullah and asking him to stop the execution.
El Khansa has been planning a second appeal case, but it seems time is running out and a second appeal will not take place.
