Bricklayer Decapitated To Redden Bricks

A 26 year old bricklayer in Bangladesh was ritually murdered and beheaded in an attempt to make house bricks appear redder.

Police in a remote town in northern Bangladesh have arrested four suspects who allegedly murdered the young man, cut off his head and burnt it in a kiln along with some bricks to turn them red. The men told the police they were acting on the instructions of their bosses at the brick manufacturing company, who had been advised by a fortune teller to make a human sacrifice.

“They said the owners were unhappy as the brick-field was not producing reddish bricks despite enough heating. A fortune teller then suggested that the brick-field needed a human sacrifice,” Police Chief Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan said today.

Red bricks are highly sought after in rural Bangladesh as the colour is seen as an indication that the bricks have been baked properly.
