Fox have today announced that the amazing J.J. Abrams sci-fi show Fringe will be getting a third season.
Things were looking a little bad for the show after it received lacklustre ratings during it’s second season run. The Fox network have little sympathy for science fiction shows which don’t bring in the viewers, despite a strong and loyal fan base. Joss Whedon can vouch for that, Fox axed Dollhouse despite good DVD and overseas sales.
Fringe‘s performance has been blamed on Fox messing with the show’s broadcast slot. At the start of season two the show was moved from different time slots, cancelled for sporting events and eventually left on what is considered to be a very tough Thursday night slot with lots of competition.
The show has also suffered a mid-season hiatus, which can only serve to spoil the momentum of the show.
Fringe season two will return to UK screens this Tuesday, 9th March on Sky 1 and is preceded on Monday night by an unaired episode from season one entitled Unearthed.
